A beach town between two better-known names
Garden City Beach is the oceanfront community south of Surfside Beach and north of Murrells Inlet. Travelers blow past the name on the way to the MarshWalk. Buyers who stop find a pier, a simpler commercial strip, and streets of cottages that still look like a beach week rather than a resort campus.
The housing is mostly low-rise. Oceanfront and near-ocean houses, some of them elevated, some of them older cottages with a later addition, plus a thinner set of condos than Myrtle Beach. If you need a tower with a rental desk, this is the wrong town. If you want sand, a pier walk, and a house that can host the people you actually invite, start here.
County lines are not a trivia question. Addresses along this stretch can fall on different sides of the Horry and Georgetown conversation. We confirm the county, the flood map, and the rental rules for the specific parcel before you assume Surfside’s habits apply one street south.
The pier, the oceanfront, and second-row
Garden City Pier is the landmark people use when they give directions. Oceanfront blocks near it are the scarce product: sunrise, dune or walkover access, and insurance that belongs in the first conversation rather than the last. Second-row and a block or two off the sand are where a lot of practical buyers land. You still hear the ocean. You are not paying the front-row premium, and you should not let a listing call that oceanfront.
Walk the access at high tide. A path that looks generous in a photo can be a narrower walk once the water is up. Ask who maintains the walkover and what the last storm did to the dune. “Updated” should mean the envelope, the windows, and the mechanicals, not only the kitchen you see in the first photo.
Condos exist, and they should be underwritten like buildings everywhere else on this coast: dues, master insurance, rental minimums, and reserves. For a pure tower search, use Myrtle Beach oceanfront condos. Stay on this page when the house, or a small building in Garden City, is the point.
How people use the houses
Some owners live here through the year. Others use the house in season and rent the peak weeks when the rules allow it. Those are different purchases. Nightly rental is a document and a local-rule question, not a promise in the remarks. We verify the address before anyone builds a calendar around it.
The Inlet is close enough that dinner on the MarshWalk is part of the week, and Surfside’s pier and small downtown are the other direction. Buyers who tour only one of those towns miss why Garden City feels like the pause between them. We will put two streets, not six, on the same afternoon so the comparison is honest.
Parking, exterior showers, and where guests actually sleep matter more than a slogan. Elevated houses can hide storage and a ground-level room that is not a legal bedroom. We count the space the way an owner will use it.
Shopping Garden City with a local broker
Open the live search on this page, then tell Lane what you will not compromise: true oceanfront, a yard, a pool, or a quieter second-row block. Myrtle Beach real estate is a different skyline. Waterfront homes are a different kind of water. Garden City is the Atlantic, in a smaller town.
Sellers should ask for a home estimate that comps Garden City against Garden City. A Surfside cottage and an Inlet creek house are context, not the same product. Sherman Beach Group at eXp Realty will say when the buyer for your house is a second-home shopper and when it is someone who wants to stay past Labor Day.
There is a shorter Garden City neighborhood guide if you want the orientation before the inventory. This URL is the homes-for-sale page. Use both, then call (717) 778-1554 when you are ready to walk a street.
Questions about Garden City Homes for Sale
Where is Garden City, SC?
- On the Grand Strand between Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet. The pier and the oceanfront cottage streets are the usual landmarks.
Is Garden City the same as Surfside Beach?
- No. They share a coastline and a similar low-rise feel. They are different towns, and the rules for a specific address still have to be checked.
What kinds of Garden City homes are for sale?
- Mostly oceanfront and second-row houses and cottages, with a smaller number of condos than Myrtle Beach. We separate true oceanfront from near-ocean.
Can Garden City homes be rented nightly?
- Sometimes. It depends on the address, any association, and local rules. We verify before you underwrite a rental calendar.
