North Myrtle Beach vs Myrtle Beach vs Surfside

North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach are three different Grand Strand towns, not three names for one beach. North Myrtle is a set of shoreline communities, Myrtle Beach has the deeper condo skyline, and Surfside is the smaller town between Myrtle Beach and Garden City. Sherman Beach Group at eXp Realty tours the week you will actually live.

Buyers say “the beach” and then land in the wrong town for the week they described. North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach share the Atlantic and split on scale, condo depth, and how January feels. This page is the comparison. It is not a price index.

Three towns, three inventories

North Myrtle Beach is Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, Windy Hill, and Cherry Grove, plus communities such as Barefoot that are not on the sand. Cottages and lower buildings are a larger share of the oceanfront than in central Myrtle Beach. North Myrtle Beach condos are their own list.

Myrtle Beach has the deeper high-rise and mid-rise condo inventory, more visitor traffic in summer, and neighborhoods west of Kings Highway that live like a city rather than a beach town. Myrtle Beach condos is that search. Surfside Beach is smaller than both, with condos and cottages between Myrtle Beach and Garden City.

What we will not rank

This page does not say which town is cheaper, safer, or a better investment. Those claims need a property, a time period, and a source. We do not have a standing statistic that survives a year, so we do not print one. Peer homes can be compared once you have two addresses.

Flood zone, HOA rental rules, and the 4% versus 6% tax classification change the payment inside every town. A cheap list price with a special assessment is not the winner. Read flood zones and HOA rules before you let the skyline decide.

How to tour the difference

One day can hold a central Myrtle Beach balcony and a Surfside cottage if you need to feel the scale. A second day can hold Ocean Drive or Cherry Grove. Seven stops in one afternoon is how the towns blur. Lane Sherman would rather you eat dinner in the town you think you will live in.
